This beloved classic is full of flavor and has a taste and texture very similar to traditional sloppy joes. But, it's even better! That's because lentils are a great source of plant-based protein with little to no fat and lots of fiber. Serve it on a toasted whole grain bun for a hearty, healthy meal!

Ingredients
2tbspolive or avocado oil
1/2med onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2cupspasta/tomato sauceHighly recommend my Best Pasta Sauce
2tbspbrown sugar
2tbspWorcestershire sauce
1tbspchili powder
1tspkosher salt
1tspsmoked paprika
1/4-1/2tspred pepper flakes
1/2tsp ground black pepper
2cups cooked lentilsYou can use canned or see easy directions below to cook lentils
4-6Whole grain or high-protein burger bunsToasted in oven or toaster oven
Instructions
In large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the onion and garlic. Cook, stirring often, about 5 minutes until the onions are softened.
Stir in the pasta/tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, smoked paprika, red pepper flakes and black pepper.
Let the mixture come to a simmer, then stir in the lentils to coat. Simmer until the lentils are warmed through and the sauce is thickened, about 5 minutes.
Pile mixture evenly among the burger buns and serve right away. Enjoy!
